Do You Have a Damaged Metabolism?

Damaged MetabolismHave you struggled for longer than you care to remember to lose weight with little if any results despite your efforts?

Over the last twenty years, hundreds of women have consulted with me because they were sick and tired of feeling sick and tired. They were frustrated in their failed attempts to lose weight, or they’ve hit the dreaded plateau. They claim, “I’ve tried everything. I eat really healthy. I exercise and am doing everything right.”

Upon review of their intake forms and blood chemistry analysis, I dig deeper and find the root causes as to why they’re exhausted, why their thyroid has stopped functioning at it’s best, why they’ve been diagnosed with Hashimoto’s or another autoimmune disease, and why their body is no longer responding no matter what they do. Some are exercising more intensely than ever and eating less, which just results in greater metabolic disaster, depleted adrenals and immune dysfunction.

My intent with any client is to empower and educate them, and help them shift their mindset to focus on becoming healthy first and making smarter choices that support a healthy metabolism, balanced hormones and permanent fat loss (all the way down to the cellular level). And, guess what happens? The person loses body fat naturally, metabolism is restored, thyroid function is re-established, hormones balance, autoimmune symptoms disappear and they look better than ever, feel energized, sleep better, cravings, aches and pains disappear, and they’re happier.

The first action step is identifying the root cause why you have a damaged metabolism, which will be different for each individual. Once the root cause is determined, natural healing and restoration of health can begin.

“A healthy metabolism has the appropriate balance between anabolic and catabolic reactions.”  –Endocrinologist Diana Schwarzbein, M.D.

What Causes a Damaged Metabolism?

  • Chronic stress. Stress comes in many forms and the body does not differentiate between different types of stress. It could be a relationship, your job, eating inflammatory foods, too much exercise or not enough, a high toxic load, chemical exposure, EMF sensitivity, unresolved prior trauma, underlying infections plus more!
  • Digestive dysfunction, leaky gut and GI disorders
  • Food sensitivities
  • Candida overgrowth, parasites, fungal, bacterial and viral infections, H. pylori
  • Hormone imbalances: Adrenal insufficiency, thyroid dysfunction, insulin resistance, blood sugar imalances
  • Eating disorders. Low calorie dieting and consuming a diet deficient in fat and low in protein
  • Inflammation overload, which can be a result of food sensitivities, infections, injuries, eating inflammatory foods such as gluten, wheat, soy, dairy, too much sugar, artificial sweeteners, chemicals, GMOs, glyphosate
  • Insufficient protein intake and excessive carbohydrate consumption (grains, soda, sugar, alcohol, etc.)
  • Toxic overload from exposure to chemicals, tobacco, xenoestrogens, pesticides, obesogens, antibiotics, heavy metal toxicity, alcohol, oral contraceptives, OTC and prescription drugs
  • Poor breathing patterns
  • Skipping meals or long periods of time between meals.
  • Nutritionally-void diet, eating non-organic foods
  • Unhealthy relationships
  • Unresolved emotions
  • Nutrient deficiencies
  • Failing to balance proteins, healthy fats, and carbohydrates at each meal
  • Sleep deprivation. Getting less than 7-9 hours of restful, uninterrupted sleep every night.
  • Too much exercise. Over-training and under-recovery. Overdoing long, slow distance aerobic and cardio-type exercise
  • Poorly planned vegetarian diets
